The Cavendish Astrophysics group is closely involved in the ALMA project to build a Large Millimetre Array in the Atacama desert in Chile. Currently, the UK Project Scientist, John Richer, is based in the group; we are also involved in three workpackages which form part of Phase 1 (Design and Development) of ALMA - site characterisation, water vapour radiometry at 183 GHz, and electromagnetic simulation of the optical design.
