Telecon Notes, Feb. 22, 2018

Attendance: Shaul, Carlo, Chang-Goo, Brandon, Andrea, Matthieu, Clem + others

Proposed Agenda:

  • Follow up on items from last week
    • MHD-based full sky foreground maps (Brandon)
    • What limits the MHD-based maps to l<100 (Chang-Goo)
    • Status of full sky pysm maps with PICO bands and noise levels (this was Julian's item; does anyone know what is the status?)
  • Results from currently available sky model (PSM) - Mathieu and Josquin (if they are available and willing to review work done over last few months)

Notes

  • Brandon describes status of MHD-Based maps: hooked up various dust models to Chang-Goo's MHD simulation. Full sky I,Q,U maps with delta-function PICO frequencies are available. They have two dust models. A modified BB in every cell, and the Draine+Hensley model. They also include synchrotron.
    • The band pass integration is provided by the data processing on the pysm side. Decision is to provide 5 points per band and Andrea will interpolate.
    • Andrea will start by interpolating two bands. Time scale: two weeks.
    • Matthieu volunteers to do analysis and to start with delta-functions
  • Matthieu is concerned about the effects of smoothing and averaging; he is running with nside=16 at the moment.
  • Clem argues that if foreground separation is done at nside=16 then input maps should be at the same resolution.
  • Clem says that more full sky maps are available. He recommends that we follow the same set that was done for CMB-S4.
  • Chang-Goo explains that we should not expect the MHD-based models to extend to \ell>100 anytime soon.
