accurate slewing time estimates. Specs tell us that the new telescopes
slew at 80 deg/min in
both AZ and EL; the old ones (ants 1 & 3)
do it at 40 deg/min in AZ, and 80 deg/min in EL.
Most importantly, after slewing, the telescopes must settle to
an equilibrium and track. This may take as much as 1 or 2
minutes, depending on wind etc. Other hardware, such as the
correlator, needs some time to settle.
Tests have shown that slewing time
estimates can be off by as much of a factor of 2.
Next, there are three az/el modes:
regular -180<az<180 0<el<150
south -270<az<270 0<el<90
north 90<el<150
south is the mode of the future; the new antennas are built for it but
not the old. regular
is what is normally done, except when doing certain calibration runs
(see the SLEWFLAG in
COMMON). We only compute slewing estimates for regular mode.
