The end of the Bagnes valley: The dam and the lake of Mauvoisin. On the left in the clouds is the Grand Combin (4314m). Behind the lake, also in the clouds, the Mont Avril (3347m). On its left, the Mont Gele (3518m). On the left of the photo, the Mont Pleureur (3704m).

The view from the Mont Fort (3300m). The glacier of Tortin. Behind it, La Chaux. That's where one of the cable cars leaves from. Behind it, Sembrancher on the left (South) of which lies the valley of Entremont leading to the Saint Bernard pass into Italy.

Pierre Avoi. We climbed up that rock. More photos of that to come soon.

Straight down the valley: Le Chable. The grey and yellow building is the start of the cable car that goes to Verbier.
|
On the way down. No more butterflies. A lot of blackfly on the remaining flowers and a few ladybirds feeding on them.
|
And the cows. Soon, they will be taken down the valley for the winter. This is a young male born this year.

These beautiful cows are the local breed 'Vache d'Herens'. Both males and females have horns. In spring, the females fight in the 'combats de reines' - fight of the queens - to decide which cow will lead the hurd. This is a local tradition.
|
This is just because people keep annooying me with supposedly purple cows in Switzerland when Milka is German and I have been tole the 'joke' about a trillion times. If people tell me that we have purple cows again, they risk to end up pretty purple themselves.
