Window functions

A few words about our naming conventions. Receivers are identified by a pair of integers, the beam and channel numbers. Beams (horns) are numbered from 1 to 5, representing Ka1/2, Q1/2, Q3/4, D1, and D2 respectively. There are two receivers attached to each Ka & Q horn, and are assigned channel numbers 1 and 2. Since each D receiver has its own horn, they are assigned channel number 0. For example, Ka1 is (beam 1, channel 1), Q2 is (beam 2, channel 2), and D2 is (beam 5, channel 0).

The window function files are located in the win directory. (X,Y,Z are integers):

  • window_1997_X_Y_Z.dat:

    X is the beam number and Y is the channel number. Z is the harmonic (synvec) number.

  • window_1997_X_Y_Z_bin.dat:

    X and Y are the same as before, but the _bin suffix changes the meaning of Z to that of group number.

    You guessed it: same as above, but with Z being the group number. The final points presented in the paper were for Z = 3-7.

There are 5 window functions: window_1997_123_0X_bin.dat [X=3-7]. They are for the five final groupings of bands and harmonics, and l ranges from 1 to 800. The specific harmonic grouping is:

Ka1+2 and Q3+4 are the weighted combination of the two polarizations. The combination took place on the 24-chop time scale, and uses the campaign average weight for each polarization. Q2 was not used because it had very low signal to noise. The code for creating the window functions can be found under win_code, and the window functions for individual harmonics under win.
