These
next few pictures are taken from the window of the
Terra Bus, my first views of Antarctica. This is
part of the landing strip.
|
Some
parts of the landscape are pretty flat and monotone.
This picture is even using a contrast filter!
|
Compare
this picture and the next one. Pretty much the only
difference is use of a filter.

More

A
glimpse of McMurdo.

The
accommodations of building 203b, room 18 (my room).

A
peek out of my window on a sunny night.

At
this point, we have all our ECW clothes on, but
haven't gotten the safety lecture.
|
This
is the C-141. Big!
|
Hello
from the plane!
|
|
|
|
|
The
plane is actually quite a bit bigger than this picture
shows. |

This
is the Avon River which flows through Christchurch.
|
This
is the bridge to the Botanical Garden. The Avon
River encircles it.
|
This
section is the rose garden. Christchurch is known
as the most English city outside of England.

It's
a little hard to see, but there's a duckling in the
middle of this picture. Remember, it's spring here! |
Here
are the people scheduled to deploy at the same time
as me. We are about to try on our ECW gear.

The
last picture of me before I started my travels.
I am sitting with all my luggage.
|
Here
I am newly arrived to the Auckland, New Zealand
airport. I have been awake for many many hours at
this point.
|
Do
you notice anything unusual about this scene? The
cars are driving on the wrong side of the road!
Dangerous to cross the road if you are an inattentive
American.
